Men must be Master Masons in good standing and at least 18 years of age to join the Order of the Eastern Star. Who is eligible to join the Order of the Eastern Star? What we teach is not a secret, but how we teach it is. We are easily found within the community, but we enjoy a distinctive means of identifying each other. Secret societies are underground and hard to find. Is the Order of the Eastern Star a secret society? Eastern Star strives to take good people and through uplifting and elevating associations of love and service, and through precept and examples, build an Order which is truly dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness. Rob Morris, the Poet Laureate of Masonry, founded the Order using beautiful and inspiring biblical examples of members. The stated purposes of the organization are: Charitable, Educational, Fraternal and Scientific but there is much more to it than that.ĭr. The personal welfare of our members is vital to all of those in the Eastern Star and it is considered a privilege to help another member whenever we can. While this is an Order composed of people with deep spiritual convictions, it is open to all faiths, except no faith. It is the wholesome relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified in our lives which makes us near and dear to each other. A deep fraternal bond exists between its members. Its appeal rests in the true beauty of the refreshing and character- building lessons that are so sincerely portrayed in its ritualistic work. Worldwide, there are approximately one million members.Įastern Star is a social order comprised of persons with spiritual values but it is not a religion. This includes Alaska and Hawaii as they do not have a Grand Chapter formed in their state.The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong. The yellow circles represent individual Chapters in the overseas countries that are directly governed by GGC. The geographical size of the state/province jurisdiction governs the number of Chapters in each state or Province. In each Grand Jurisdiction joined with GGC are several local Chapters represented by the green circles extending from the blue circles. ![]() GGC and these two independent state jurisdictions have a harmonious relationship and exchange Grand Representatives with each other. They each have a slightly different Ritual and their own set of Laws. ![]() New York and New Jersey are not a part of the GGC. These are represented by the blue circles. There are 46 states, 8 Canadian Provinces, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Bolivia, Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Italy that are Grand Jurisdictions joined to the GGC. As shown in the chart at the left, the large red circle represents the General Grand Chapter (GGC) which serves as the hub for chapters subordinate to the GGC and the Grand Jurisdictions. ![]()
